Air Astana has begun equipping its aircraft fleet with high-speed satellite connectivity. The first flight featuring active onboard Wi-Fi was operated by an Airbus A321LR flying from Almaty to Tashkent, reports Telegram channel Telco.kz.
- Air Astana completed its first flight equipped with satellite internet on an Airbus A321LR along the Almaty–Tashkent route.
- Through January 31, 2027, onboard Wi-Fi will be free of charge for all passengers on equipped aircraft.
- Starting February 1, 2027, complimentary Wi-Fi will be reserved for Business Class passengers and Nomad Club Gold/Diamond members, while other travelers can purchase paid data packages.
Until January 31, 2027, the service will be entirely complimentary for all passengers flying on equipped aircraft.
Effective February 1, 2027, the terms for onboard internet access will be updated:
— Full complimentary Wi-Fi will be provided to Business Class passengers and Nomad Club loyalty program members holding Gold and Diamond status; — Free access to instant messaging apps will be available to Nomad Club members at all other tier levels; — All other passengers will be able to purchase paid internet data packages during the flight.
The carrier plans to progressively roll out satellite internet hardware across the remainder of its Airbus A321LR fleet throughout 2027. Similar technologies were previously introduced across Kazakhstan's ground transport network: according to Telco.kz, by September satellite internet was already operational on 59 passenger trains across 31 routes.
Inflight connectivity will not be available on all flights immediately, as service availability depends on the specific aircraft operating the route. Currently, the hardware is installed on a single Airbus A321LR, with fleet-wide deployment for this model scheduled for completion in 2027.
For travel scheduled after January 31, 2027, Economy Class passengers are advised to sign up for the Nomad Club program in advance: even entry-level status grants complimentary access to messaging services in flight.
