Qatar Welcomes Over 2.6 Million Tourists in First Nine Months of 2026
Qatar recorded 2.614 million tourist arrivals in the first nine months of 2026. Growth momentum has moderated due to Middle Eastern tensions and flight safety concerns.

Qatar welcomed 2.614 million international visitors during the first nine months of 2026, reports Kazinform, citing Qatar Tourism and Anadolu Agency.
In September 2026 alone, the country registered 276,000 arrivals—a modest 1.1% increase compared to 273,000 visitors in September 2025.
The majority of inbound travel during the nine-month period originated from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, accounting for 1.069 million arrivals. Asia and Oceania followed with 548,000 visitors, while Europe ranked third with 538,000 travelers. Other Arab nations contributed 184,000 arrivals, and African nations accounted for 84,000.
According to Turkish news agency Anadolu, Qatar achieved a record-breaking 5.1 million visitors in 2025. However, growth trajectory slowed in 2026, primarily affecting long-haul markets such as North America and Asia. Industry analysts attribute the slowdown to regional geopolitical tensions across the Middle East, airspace safety concerns, and subsequent flight reroutings. Currently, performance in the tourism sector is largely sustained by regional travel from neighboring GCC states arriving via overland routes or short-haul flights.
Market Implications
- For Tour Operators: When planning flight schedules and charter operations to Qatar, contingency plans should account for potential rerouting and extended flight times due to Middle Eastern airspace restrictions.
- For Travel Agents: When booking packages, agents should note that a high concentration of regional GCC arrivals traveling overland may place additional pressure on Qatar's hospitality inventory and local infrastructure during weekends and public holidays.
