Large-scale infrastructure development continues in Kazakhstan to enhance digital connectivity across transportation networks and prime tourism destinations. According to data from the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, as reported by Zakon.kz, active work is underway to connect seven aircraft and 50 tourism locations to high-speed internet networks.
Speaking at a cabinet meeting on October 6, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development Zhaslan Madiyev reported that connectivity has already been deployed across 1,500 rail carriages on 124 trains servicing 50 passenger routes.
Furthermore, according to the Minister, half of the planned route for the 'West–East' hyper-highway telecommunications project has already been laid. The total length of the line spans 4,511 kilometers, with full operational commissioning slated before the end of 2026. As part of rural telecommunications development, the goal for the current year is to connect 1,600 villages, with 370 settlements already covered via 11,819 kilometers of fiber optic lines. By 2027, plans call for establishing network coverage along 40,000 kilometers of regional and national highways through the installation of over 500 telecom towers.
What This Means for the Market
- For tour operators and guides: When planning itineraries featuring the 50 tourism destinations identified by the Ministry, trade partners should account for the phased rollout timelines—seamless high-speed connectivity will become available progressively as works wrap up.
- For hoteliers and accommodation providers: The expanded coverage of the 'West–East' trunk line and regional communications networks by late 2026 will substantially improve utility infrastructure and digital access for remote hospitality properties.
